Abstract

Aggressive driving patterns represent a critical factor in traffic accidents worldwide. This work studies the effectiveness of immediate auditory feedback on aggressive behaviors. We conducted an in-the-wild study with 8 drivers, from which we monitored harsh acceleration, aggressive braking, and speeding events during a complete driving day using mobile devices. Results show 37% reductions in total aggressive events per km and 70% in harsh braking events for the experimental group, with large effect sizes (Cohen's d = -1.424 for braking). Although statistical significance was limited by sample size (N=8), findings suggest the effective potential of auditory feedback, especially for conscious behaviors like harsh braking.
